Renesas' 8/16-bit microcontrollers that are equipped with ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) for power supply and ambient light detection, and other necessary functions, offer a range of solutions for emergency lighting systems.
Emergency lighting control (ELC) typically operates as follows. When the normal AC power fails, the emergency ballast senses the power failure and immediately switches to emergency mode, illuminating one or more emergency lamps, often at a reduced luminance. A typical system will be required to sense the presence of AC power and ambient light as well as control the supply to the emergency lighting. In addition, it may be required to send data to a central control panel.
